There is no quick fix to weight-loss!
Now we need to be very realistic here. There is simply no quick fix to weight loss. No waving of the magic wand. No work involved and BAM all those kilos have vanished.
The pills that promise to speed up your metabolism or melt away your fat are actually only burning a big hole in your pocket.
The diet industry is having a big laugh at our expense.
The juice diets that say they will shrink your waist in a few days are only getting rid of water retention. Which will come back fairly quickly once you get back to a normal eating pattern.
Did I also mention that you will spend most of your time pretty hungry, frustrated and miserable? Because actually your body is built to survive on more.
What do you do once the juice diet or meal replacement program is finished?
Go back to your regular eating pattern and re-gain the kgs that you lost?
This is really a passionate subject for me. Mainly because I wasted so many of my younger years trying every ridiculous diet under the sun. Searching for the quick fix, only to end up torturing myself all the time when I couldn’t keep up with the diet.
Don’t ever think you are failing yourself or that it’s your fault you can’t keep going. The diets are failing you, it’s not sustainable, it’s restricted and it’s not healthy.
What is the answer to weight-loss? I mean sustainable, healthy weight-loss?
Focus on habitual change. What habits do you need to work on? Is it having breakfast in the morning? Preparing lunch for work? Reducing snacking?
Work on your habits everyday and create new habits. Sure it might be a bit tough at the beginning but you created these habits so it is possible to also get rid of them.
Get into a routine with your meals. Planning your meals and actually knowing what you are eating will reduce the likelihood of you making unhealthier choices throughout the day.
Look at your portion sizes. Focus on getting lots of fresh vegetables in your diet, make this the bulk of your meals.
Focus on nutritious foods, lean meats, wholegrains, fresh fruit and vegetables the majority of the time.
Take away restriction. How many times on a Monday morning have you made the pledge to give up chocolate or your favourite food? Your mind will always want the things it can’t have.
How about using a different approach and saying to yourself, all food is available to you in abundance, there is no restriction and you are allowed what you want.
If you enjoy chocolate, why should you completely cut it out of your diet? Have it in your diet. You will find when there is no restriction or rules around food, you won’t need to eat it everyday because it is available to you anytime.
Take away the shame and guilt associated with food. The more guilt and shame you feel after eating something, the more likely you are to overindulge or sabotage what you have been working towards. This instigates negative eating patterns. Instead think about your food choices. Make a conscious decision if you actually want something and if you do, eat it and enjoy every bite.
Become a mindful eater. Do you know that so many people go through their day mindlessly eating. Not paying attention to what and how much they are actually eating of something?
Eating is something you should absolutely tune into or how will you know when you have had enough? Or when you are hungry? Pay attention to hunger and act upon these signals. Check in when eating a meal and see when you have had enough. Your body will tell you, don’t ignore these signals.
When you do it this way, honestly weight-loss or weight maintenance can actually be fun and not be such a tedious task. You eat the food you enjoy, it is sustainable and you can literally eat like this for the rest of your life.
Your body will thank you for taking this approach. Trust me, I live by this approach. I don’t see food and my weight as a constant internal struggle anymore.
No Quick Fix
This isn’t a quick fix and yes it takes a little bit of mind work more than anything else but don’t you deserve to do that for yourself instead of continuously going from one diet to another?
Quick fixes are simply that, a quick fix. There is nothing sustainable about them and soon enough you will be back to square one. Just like I was many of times and I don’t want that for you.
My passion is supporting women that have demanding schedules. That work a lot and thus keep going back to making the wrong food choices, day in day out, jumping from one diet to another.
Women that are struggling to fit a healthy lifestyle around their career but finally want to make a sustainable change and lose weight, become healthy, be bursting with energy and confidence.
Remember the time is now, Choose To Be YOU!
